Lumina Treble Youth Choir

Auditions happening now for February 2024!

Developed out of a desire to mentor and empower young treble singers, the Ensemble Laude Choral Society is proud to be launching the Lumina Treble Youth Choir, an auditioned choir for Soprano and Alto voices aged 14 – 25!

The Lumina Treble Youth Choir is an emerging “brilliant light” in the Victoria choral community. As a high-quality performing choir, singers can expect to be challenged musically while singing songs that they love. Innovative performances will include a diversity of repertoire, with an emphasis on representation, Canadian composers, and contemporary choral music. By providing a safe and inclusive space for young singers, Lumina aims to uplift our members by encouraging the development of their vocal technique, leadership skills, self-confidence, and overall well-being. We believe in coming together as a community of singers with a shared goal of belonging and musical excellence.

We cannot wait to begin! Will you join us?

The Artistic Director

Frequently praised for her “energetic” and “creative” approach to directing, Christina Banman is an emerging force in the choral community. Having grown up in the rich choral culture of Manitoba, Christina has been singing in choirs since the age of 10. She received her Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Education from the University of Manitoba, with a focus on secondary choral music. She has spent nearly a decade working with high school aged singers and was interviewed by CBC Radio in 2021 for her unique approach to help students continue singing safely throughout the pandemic. Her high school choir was selected as one of two choirs from across Canada for Against the Grain Theatre’s The Messiah Project. Christina believes in promoting healthy vocal technique, and in creating a supportive and inclusive environment for singers to test the boundaries of their abilities. She recognizes the power of community a choir can create, and believes that singing in a choir can build self-confidence and leadership skills in all ages. In 2017-2018, Christina was one of Ensemble Laude’s first Emerging Artists, a mentorship program designed to help young female directors build confidence and gain skills in conducting. Christina returned as the Associate Director of Ensemble Laude in 2022 and is thrilled to be launching the Lumina Treble Youth Choir in the fall of 2023. Christina currently works as the Choir Teacher at St. Michaels University School.
